Catie's Cardi ~ 0-3 months; 6-12 months




Catie’s Cardi

0-3 months and 6-12 months

Size 0-3 months: Chest 18”; Width at hem 20”-22”; Length from neckline to hem 10.5”-11”.
Size 6-12 months: Chest 20”-22”; Width at hem 22”-24”; Length from neckline to hem 12”.

Materials:  1 skein worsted weight (aran/10ply) yarn (I used Stylecraft Special Aran (10ply); 4.5mm and 5mm hook; 3 buttons; yarn needle

Abbreviationssc=single crochet; dc=double crochet; hdc= half double crochet; tr=treble; Cr3R=Cross 3 Right; Cr3L=Cross 3 Left (See Special Stitches); sk=skip; ch=chain; beg=beginning; st=stitch; sp=space.

Gauge:  7 sts and 4 rows on dc, 4.5mm hook = 2”;  Width of 1 complete cable (8 sts) on 5mm hook = 2.5”.

Special StitchesCr3R = skip 2 sts; work 1 tr in next st; working behind last tr work 1dc into each of the 2 skipped sts; Cr3L = skip 1 st; work 1dc into each of the next 2 sts; working in front of the last 2 dc; work 1 tr into the skipped st.

Pattern:

0-3 months:  

With 4.5mm hook, Ch 46, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and to end. Turn.  (45)

Row 1:  Ch3 (counts as 1 st); dc in next 5 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 9 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 11 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 9 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 6 sts; Turn.

Row 2: Ch3, dc in next 6 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 11 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 13 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; dc in next 11 sts; (dc, ch1, dc) in next st; hdc in next 7 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  Ch3, dc in next 11 sts; dc into “V” space; Ch4, sk 21 sts; dc into next “V” space; dc in next 23 sts; dc in next “V” space; Ch 4, sk 21 sts; dc into next “V” space; dc to end.  Turn.  (59)

Row 8:  Ch1, sc across, including across the Ch 4 at each armhole.  Turn.

Row 9:  Ch1, sc in next 8 sts; 2 sc in next; sc in next 5 sts; 2sc in next (7 times); sc to end.  Turn.  (67)

Change to 5mm hook.

Row 10: Ch3, 1 dc in next st; *Cr3R, 1 dc in next st; Cr3L, 1 dc in next st*; rep to end.  1 dc in last stitch.  Turn.

Row 11:  Ch1, sc into each st to end.  Turn. (67)

Repeat Rows 10 and 11 (6 times, or to desired length)

Next Row:  Ch1, sc across to end.  In last st, 1 sc, ch1, 1sc, then work evenly in sc up  the right front side to the neckline.  Turn.

Buttonhole band:  Ch1, 1 sc; ch1, sk 1 st; sc in next 5 sts; ch1, sk 1 st; sc in next 5 sts; ch1, sk 1 st; sc to end, turning at hemline.

Next Row:  Ch1, sc back up the neckline, working 1sc into each ch1 space (buttonholes).  Fasten off.

Buttonband:  With RS facing, attach yarn to neck edge of left front; Ch1, sc evenly to hemline (make sure you have the same number of sts on left and right sides); turn.

Ch1, sc back up to neckline.

Ch1, sc back down to hemline.  Fasten off.

Sleeve edges: With RS facing, attach yarn to bottom of armhole, in the centre of the 4 sc you worked previously, and sc evenly around sleeve edge.  Sl st to beg sc.  Fasten off.

Repeat for the other armhole, making sure you have an equal amount of sts on both sides.

Sew on 3 buttons, weave in ends.


6-12 months:  

With 4.5mm hook, Ch 46, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and to end. Turn.  (45)

Row 8:  Ch3, dc in next 12 sts; dc into next “V” space; chain 4, sk 23 sts; dc in next “V” space; dc in next 25 sts; dc in next “V” space; chain 4, sk 23 sts; dc in next “V” space; dc in  next 13 sts.  Turn.

Row 9: Ch1, sc across, including the chain 4 under both armholes.  Turn.  (63)

Row 10: Ch1, *sc 4, 2 sc in next st* (6 times); sc 3, 2 sc in next; *sc 4, 2 sc in next st* (5 times), sc 4.  Turn. (75)

Change to 5mm hook.

Row 11:  Ch3, 1 dc in next st; *Cr3R, 1 dc in next st; Cr3L, 1 dc in next st*; rep to end.  1 dc in last stitch.  Turn.

Row 12: Ch1, sc into each st to end. 

Repeat rows 11 and 12 to 12” from neckline, or to desired length.

Next Row:  Ch1, sc across to end.  In last st, 1 sc, ch1, 1sc, then work evenly in sc up  the right front side to the neckline.  Turn.
