Quick Holiday Scarf

So you want another quick project for a last minute gift?  Here you go, this scarf works up in no time at all!  Sure to please for kids, teens, adults, boys, girls, whoever.  Just right for the Holiday season, and would make a great stocking filler!

Very simple, very fast.

All you need is about half a skein of main colour worsted weight yarn in Green (aran/10ply), a smaller amount of two contrasting colours (Red and White) and your trusty 4.5mm or 5mm hook.

Worked in simple double crochet, this scarf is done in no time and perfect for that last-minute project we all need to scramble for from time to time!

Super Quick and Simple Holiday Scarf

Materials:  About half a skein main colour worsted weight yarn (aran/10ply) (I used Cygnet Kiddies Couture in Green) and a smaller amount of two contrasting colours (I used Cygnet Aran in Red and Cygnet Aran in White).  You will also need your trusty 4.5mm crochet hook, and a yarn needle and scissors.

Gauge:  not important but mine was 12 sts and 9 rows dc with 4.5mm hook.

Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; Rep = repeat;  Beg = beginning; prev = previous.

The scarf is so simple to make.  Use a larger hook to make your initial chain as that will stop one end pulling and looking smaller than the other.

Row 1:  With your trusty 4.5mm hook (or larger if you need to), and Green, make a foundation single crochet of whatever length you require.  For the Teens scarf I made 16.  For a 5-6 year old, I’d make around 14, and for an adult, probably around 18-20.

Rows 2 and 3:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Red on the last st, Turn.

Rows 4 and 5:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Green on the last st, Turn.

Row 6-8: Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Red on the last st, Turn.

Row 9 and 10:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to White on the last st, Turn.

Rows 11 and 12:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Red on the last st, Turn.

Rows 13 and 14:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Green on the last st, Turn.

Rows 15-17:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Red on the last st, Turn.

Rows 18-21:  Ch3, dc to end, work 1 dc into top of beg ch from prev row, Change to Green on the last st, Turn.

Now Continue in Green until your scarf is your desired length – I made mine for a Teen and so it was 42” up to here.  Make it longer or shorter, as you please.

Final 21 rows:  Work through as Rows 18-21 (in Red), 15-17 in Green), 13 and 14 (in Red), 11 and 12 (in White), 9 and 10 (in Red), 6-8 (in Green), 4 and 5 (in Red), and finally 2 rows dc in Green, and 1 row of sc in Green.

Fasten off and weave in those ends!

There you go, a super-fast, super easy, last-minute gift!
