Scarf/Cowl:

Using a 5mm hook,  with Colour A, make a sc foundation chain of 147.   Alternatively, make 148 chain, sc into 2nd ch from hook and to end.    You can make these longer or shorter as you wish, as long as you sc a multiple of 7 or chain a multiple of 7 + 1.

Row 1:  Ch3, dc in next st, *sk 2 sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) into next chain.  Sk 2 sts.  Dc into each of the next 2 sts*.  Repeat from * to * to last 5 sts.  Sk 2 sts (2dc, ch3, 2dc) into next st, sk the last 2 sts;  sl st to beg chain 3 to form a loop.

Change to Colour B .   You will find 2 sts left at the end between the last shell cluster and the join, that is correct.   You will need those when you come to turn the work around later.

Row 2:  Ch 3, dc into next dc; sk next 2 dc; *(3dc, ch1, 3dc) into next chain space (between the two 2dc clusters), sk the next 2 dc, dc into each of the next 2 dcs from previous row.* Rep from * to *  to end, working (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into the last chain space,  sl st to beg ch3.

Change to Colour C.

Row 3: Ch3, dc into next dc; sk next 3 dc, *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) into chain space between 3dc clusters, sk 3 dc, 1 dc into each of the next 2 dcs from previous row*.  Repeat to end, working (2dc, ch3, 2dc) into last chain space.  Sl st to beg ch3.

Change to Colour D.

Row 4:  As row 2; Change to Colour A.

Row 5: As Row 3; Change to Colour B.

Row 6:  As Row 2.  Fasten off.

Turn the cowl around so that you are now working on the starting chain edge, opposite to where you just left off.  You will be working a mirror image of the 6 rows just completed.

Row 7:  Attach Colour E to the sc above the first of the set of 2 dc at the turning point.  Ch1, sc into every stitch around for 2 rows.  Sl st to beg sc. Change to Colour A.

Row 8:  Ch1, sc all around, sl st to beg sc.

Row 9:  Ch3,  dc into next sc; *sk 2 sc; (2dc, ch3, 2dc) into the sp in which you worked the same pattern on Row 1.  Sk 2 sc, dc into each of next 2 sc*. Repeat to end, working (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into final space left by the same pattern on row 1, sl st to beg chain 3.

You are now changing colours and repeating rows as before to work a mirror image of rows 2-6.

Change to Colour B.
