Here is a little textured washcloth that is so fast and easy to make. I used 1 50g skein of Rico Creative Cotton (Pastel Pink Mix), and a few yards of Rico Creative Cotton in pure White for the border. Just two pattern rows, and a border makes this ideal for experienced and beginners alike.
Materials: 50g Worsted Weight Cotton yarn in Main Colour (MC) and about 10 yards in Contrasting Colour (CC) for the border. (You can, of course, make the whole washcloth in one main colour if you wish.) G/4mm crochet hook; yarn needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge: Not important for this item. Finished cloth is roughly 9" - 10" square.
Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; sk = skip; rep = repeat; beg = beginning; ch = chain; fpdc = front post double crochet.
Pattern is written in US terms, a conversion chart is included at the end.
Row 1: With 4mm hook and MC, loosely ch 32 (I like to use a larger hook for the initial chain as it keeps the whole thing square, rather than having one end pulling tighter than the rest). Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across (30)
Row 2: Ch3, *fpdc in next st, dc in next st*; rep from * to * to end, dc in last st, Turn.
Row 3: Ch3, *dc in top of fpdc from prev row, fpdc in top of next dc from prev row*; rep * to * to end, dc in last st. Turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until cloth is square (i.e., length = width) When you have reached this point, Do not turn.
Next Row: Ch1, sc 28 evenly down side, (sc, ch1, sc) in corner st, sc across next edge, and continue around the whole square, remembering to work (sc, ch1, sc) into the corner sts. Do not turn.
Next Row: With CC, (or the same yarn if you are completing the washcloth all in one colour) sk1, *(dc. hdc, ch1, sc) all in next st; sk2*, rep from * to * around the four sides, again working (sc, ch1, sc) in each corner stitch.
Slip stitch to beg dc to complete the round, fasten off and weave in ends.
