Easy Ribbed Beanies

Newborn to Adult Men

A simple ribbed beanie that can be made plain, or as a slouchy hat, with or without striping colours, with a narrow brim or a wide brim, for everyone from newborn through to men.

Materials:  1 skein worsted weight yarn (aran/10ply), (you may need a bit extra for the men’s size) in either one or two colours, 4.5mm, 5mm and 5.5mm hooks; yarn needle.

Abbreviations:  sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; fphdc = front post half double crochet; bphdc = back post half double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; beg = beginning; rep = repeat

I have written the pattern as a plain, one-colour, hat.  You may use other colours for striping as you wish.  For the hat with the turned up brim and the slouch, I did the final 3 or 4 rows in a different colour.  For the green hat with two stripes, I simply added those where it felt right to do so (at rows 18,19, and at the last 4 rows.)  For a slouchy hat, add more rows before the final (bphdc, fphdc) ribbing to make it to your desired length; for a turned up brim, add extra rows of (bphdc, fphdc) ribbing at the end.

Gauge:  12 sts and 12 rows working fphdc, hdc ribbing on 5.5mm hook = 4”

Sizing:   Newborn to Adult

0-3 months                        Circumference 12”-14”;                Length 5.5”
