How about a Freebie?

Here is a little newborn beanie that is so, so simple to make, and works up in lightning quick time!

And here is the pattern:

As the name implies – this hat is just a very simple newborn beanie, easy to make and works up really quickly.

Materials: Oddments of light worsted (DK/8ply) yarn, in two colours, which are worked together. 4mm and 4.5mm hook. Yarn needle.

Gauge: 10 sts and 8 rows of dc with 4.5mm hook = 4”

Abbreviations: sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; hdc = half double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; beg = beginning.

**The pattern is worked in a round, so do not join at the end of each row; place a stitch marker and keep on going around unless instructed to do otherwise.**

Pattern is written in US terms, a conversion chart is included at the end.

Using 4.5mm hook, and using both colours together

Row 1: Make a magic ring; (alternatively, chain 4 and slip stitch to 1st chain to form a ring), ch 2, work 8 hdc into ring (8)

Row 2: 2 hdc in every stitch around. (16)

Row 3: *2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc in next stitch*; rep to end. (24)

Row 4: *2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc in next 2 sts*; rep to last stitch; 2 hdc in next st (32)

Row 5: Begin now working around and around, moving the stitch marker up as you go, with dc in every stitch.

Repeat Row 5 until work measures 5”.

Next Row: Hdc in next st; sc in next st; sc around

Next Row: Sc around. Once you get back to the stitch marker (the end of the row), sl st into the next 2 sts. Fasten off and weave in ends invisibly.

Using a 4mm hook, make a magic ring, ch 1, work 10 sc into the ring. Join to beg sc. (10); Ch 2, work 2 hdc into the same stitch, *1 hdc into next st, 2hdc into next stitch*; repeat around, 1 hdc into last st, slip stitch to beg ch2. (15 sts)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Attach button to hat and your hat is complete! Simples! :)
